Sonam Kapoor’s custom Anamika Khanna cape took over 1,450 artisan hours to create
Across Anshula Kapoor’s wedding celebrations, Sonam Kapoor has avoided the expected sari-and-lehenga rotation. Her custom Itrh anarkali for the prayer ceremony came with two dupattas, while her Punit Balana mehendi look drew from a Punjabi lacha. For the wedding ceremony, she wore custom Anamika Khanna, with a cape that took six months and more than 1,450 hours of embroidery to complete.
The cape sat over a pale champagne kurta and palazzo set, its purple base covered with intricate zari, resham, sequins and metallic embroidery, while the hem of the palazzo mirrored its regal purple hue. Red lining showed at the sides, breaking up the palette and making the already rich cape look richer in movement.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor with Abhilasha Devnani, the ensemble continued through jewellery with saturated colour. Kapoor wore a necklace with a prominent blue stone and matching earrings from Anmol Sandhu, along with emerald strands from Golecha’s Jewels. A maang tikka, heirloom bangles and rings from Sunita Kapoor’s jewellery collection, a miniature jadau-embellished bag by Özel and juttis by House of Vian added to the outfit’s craft-heavy vocabulary.
For beauty, makeup artist Namrata Soni gave Kapoor luminous skin, winged eyeliner, lifted lashes and tinted lips and cheeks. Hairstylist Alpa Khimani styled her hair in a twisted half-braid, leaving the maang tikka and earrings visible.
Kapoor and Khanna have a long history of working together on occasion wear. The designer created bespoke ensembles for Kapoor’s 2018 wedding to Anand Ahuja and has continued to dress her for family ceremonies and fashion events, including her son’s naamkaran ceremony and the AK|OK Anamika Khanna presentation at London Fashion Week in September 2025.
