Kareena Kapoor Khan wore separates from AK|OK that married chikankari with tailoring
Kareena Kapoor Khan is currently doing the press rounds ahead of the theatrical release of her upcoming crime thriller Daayra. If her promotional wardrobe is anything to go by, the film’s dark, layered world is being juxtaposed with looks that are anything but grim. For one of her recent appearances, the actor chose an ivory co-ord set from AK|OK by Anamika Khanna. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, her look brought together traditional craftsmanship and sharp contemporary tailoring.
The three-piece set features a sleek slip top, a pair of impeccably cut flared trousers and a show-stopping diaphanous ivory organza cape that is layered over the top. Constructed to give off an easy, carefree vibe to the look, the cape is elevated with delicate chikankari work. The embroidery illustrates an intricate lattice of jaali work interspersed with fine floral and vine motifs that trail down the yoke, front placket, waist and from the shoulders down to the sleeves’ hem. An ivory piping runs along the yoke and cuts across the waist, grounding the sheer organza textile with a clean, solid texture. The cape’s sleeves are cut to showcase a batwing-inspired silhouette.
The styling is where this look earns its old money credentials. Kapoor Khan wore polki huggies style earrings and a matching bracelet from Mumbai-based fine jewellery brand Mohar by Priyanka and Nakul Jain. The cape’s pared-down tonal buttons were swapped out for ones crafted entirely from polkis by Razwada Jewels. This is a small but telling styling move that instantly alleviates a simple outfit: replacing standard fastenings with precious, high-shine details for exuding an expensive finish. Nude pumps from Oroh kept the palette neutral from head to toe. Her hair was pulled into a sleek braided bun, and the makeup stayed understated with clean nude tones, a soft highlighter and a nude brown gloss.
For anyone looking beyond the predictable lehenga and kurta this festive season, Kapoor Khan’s look is a compelling blueprint. A co-ord set, like hers, would work well for a Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, hold its own at a Diwali cards party, and still look appropriate at a poolside mehendi at a destination wedding. The combination of fine embroidery, fluid tailoring and thoughtful jewellery is exactly what old money energy is made of.
