How to create a wedding time capsule you’ll want to open in ten years

How to create a wedding time capsule you’ll want to open in ten years

Wedding details
Any monogrammed items, wedding favours or even a piece of stationery you used during wedding prep can be a particularly good reminder of the wedding.

Dried or pressed flowers
A few flowers from the varmala or floral decor can preserve a small piece of the ceremony. Press and dry them completely before sealing them separately, since moisture is not a time capsule’s friend.

Your cake topper
If you had a personalised topper, save it. Unlike the actual cake, this one should survive the decade.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
If you took part in the tradition, the capsule is a fitting place for the objects—except, of course, the borrowed one, which its owner may object to having returned after a ten-year interval.

This could be a nice bit of context for the world you were getting married in.

This could be printed out, added to the USB stick or put on a Spotify QR code

Make one for your partner

If you want to take things a step further, create individual time capsules for each other, ones your partner won’t see for the next decade. The Louis Vuitton Letter Trunk in each other’s initials is fitting for a more personal version.

Write your partner a letter on your wedding day and seal it away to be opened on your tenth anniversary. Add a copy of your vows, perhaps alongside the drafts that came before them. You could also include a photograph, a tiny gift, a note about what you thought your life would look like in ten years or even a list of things you hoped you would have done together by then.

Remember to label everything. You’ll want to know what you’re looking at and why you thought it was worth saving. Then lock it up, mark the date, and forget about it for the next ten years.
