Once upon a time, body lotions remained tucked away on our beauty shelves and were barely touched, except on certain special occasions. Back then, what went on the face seemed like the only skincare we were intended to do. In a day and age where personal care isn’t a mere phenomenon but a full-fledged million-dollar industry, bodycare is the new skincare, and for all the right reasons. But it took us long enough to realise that the skin barrier is present everywhere and goes way beyond your face.
My relationship with body lotions is similar, too. I loved seeing them in beauty stores, and I loved the idea of owning multiple jars, especially since I hail from Delhi, where winters really test just how dry your skin can get. Body lotions have always been a staple at my home. There were only a few brands back in the day, and I remained loyal to them until recently, when I was introduced to Dence. The brand, which made its debut this year in the bodycare category with shower gels, has now launched a collection of five active-infused body lotions that approach moisturisation with a little more intention.
A Little Colour, A Lot Of Bodycare And My Two Scents

The lotion bottles are super cute and come in the most beautiful, bright colours, almost like the Lego blocks I played with as a kid. I got my hands on all five variants, and here are my two cents:
Smooth Therapy is a blend of AHA, BHA and Urea, making it a great option for someone who wants their body lotion to double as a little texture treatment for the skin.
Cashmere Cloud is my favourite from the lot and is definitely the one I’ll be reaching for now that Delhi is getting a little chilly post-Diwali. It combines Ceramides, Oat Protein and Hyaluronic Acid to combat dryness. The texture feels creamy enough to moisturise the body without leaving behind a sticky feel.
Then comes Aqua Verge, which is the one I’m keeping on my shelf for when I’m in Mumbai. With the humid weather already making me feel like I’m a frying pan, the thought of applying body lotion feels like a nightmare. Until this super lightweight one popped up and made that problem go away for me.
For those who want their lotion to do some sort of heavy lifting quietly, Bright Edit is the pick. Fighting the dark spots and pigmentation in targeted areas.
And lastly, Golden Oudh, inspired by traditional Kesar-Haldi rituals, has Saffron, Cica and Turmeric infused into its formulation, along with antioxidant actives and an indulgent scent.
The Final Take

With five different formulations catering to different skin needs, Dence makes a rather convincing case for giving the rest of our skin the same attention we have always reserved for our faces.
