16 standout saris from Nita Ambani’s wardrobe, from Banarasi to Paithani

There are fashion patrons, and then there is Nita Ambani, whose wardrobe has consistently spotlighted India’s textile heritage through zari-rich Kanchipuram silks from Tamil Nadu, handwoven Banarasi silks from Varanasi, airy Jamdanis and fine mul cotton saris from Bengal, intricate Patolas from Gujarat and other region-specific weaves.

Her approach to dressing has positioned traditional handloom craftsmanship within the language of contemporary luxury, pairing heirloom textiles with temple jewellery, custom diamonds and sharply constructed blouses. From ceremonial appearances to international red carpets, her sartorial choices have repeatedly reinforced the relevance of Indian weaving traditions on a global stage.

Whether attending the TIME100 Gala in New York, hosting celebrations in Jamnagar or appearing at cultural events in Mumbai, Ambani consistently positions the sari not as ceremonial dressing, but as high fashion with lasting cultural permanence.

For a recent public appearance, Ambani turned to a Tanchoi Banarasi silk sari from Swadesh India, handwoven over two months by master artisans Arushi Lohia and Krishna Lohia from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Inspired by the gulab Holi celebrations of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, the luminous blush-pink sari featured an intricate all-over floral jaal with floral buttas in ivory and antique gold. Woven using the Tanchoi technique, one of the most labour-intensive weaving traditions, patterns are woven to mimic embossed designs with finesse, even on the sari’s reverse side that reflects the precision of the craft. With origins in China, the weaving technique was introduced to India by Parsi traders from Gujarat in the 19th century before the master weavers of Varanasi. For accessories, Ambani opted for diamond stud earrings, a heart-shaped diamond necklace, a diamond bangle, a statement diamond ring with a watch.
