US President Donald Trump has urged the Senate to approve the Sunshine Protection Act. In a post on Truth Social, he criticised the early sunsets, saying it was getting dark too early in the evening. “It’s so dark outside, so early,” he wrote, pointing out that sunset was at 5:06 pm and it was already dark by 5:31 pm.

The Sunshine Protection Act seeks to make daylight saving time permanent, ending the practice of changing clocks twice a year.

“Just a few days ago it was so nice and sunny at this same time,” Trump said, adding that people had been “running around changing their clocks all over the place”.

He said the House of Representatives had passed the legislation several times with bipartisan support, including a vote of 308-117, but the Senate had not taken it up.

“The House sent it over to the Senate with great bipartisan support, numerous times (308-117), but the Senate didn’t take it up,” Trump said.

Trump further added that he had avoided making the issue a major focus before the elections, saying he did not want certain senators to lose their races “in a landslide”.
“We have far bigger priorities, but I will keep fighting for this!” he said.
