Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s sheer mocha sari is great, but the bejewelled blouse is even better

Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s relationship with the sari is worthy of emulation. From heirloom silks and handwoven classics to gossamer chiffons and experimental drapes, the actor has consistently proved that the six yards can evolve with every occasion. For her latest outing, she stepped away from tradition in favour of a pre-draped silhouette from Itrh²—a contemporary vertical of celebrity stylist Mohit Rai and designer Riddhi Bansal’s label, Itrh. With this look, the actor embraced one of the season’s most coveted colour stories: a rich chocolate mocha.

Crafted as a pre-draped sari, her look skims the body in a sculpted style that fits like a second skin and has become synonymous with Itrh²’s modern occasion wear. Crystals in tonal hues are scattered across the fabric exuding subtle shimmer. But, cut in a luminous copper gold tone, the halter neck design adds a statement slant to the look. Encrusted with crystals and intricate beadwork, they create the illusion of precious gemstones embedded directly onto the surface. The trompe-l’œil effect gives the piece the appearance of an ornate bib necklace fused into the garment. Functioning as apparel and adornment, it eliminates its wearer’s need to wear a heavy necklace.

Mohit Rai, who also styled the look, displayed restraint with accessorising. He allowed the sari and sculptural blouse to command attention, finishing the ensemble with a pair of shoulder grazing heart shaped earrings. Shetty Kundra also wore her diamond engagement ring, complemented by a stack featuring a brown leather watch and a sleek gold bangle. She championed her signature beauty look. A voluminous blow dry completed with smoky eyes, defined lashes and nude brown lips to complement the mocha palette.

The chocolate brown colour offers a refreshing alternative to predictable jewel tones and metallics that often dominate festive dressing. Combined with the sculpted pre-draped silhouette, it proves that modern saris can look reimagined without deterring from its DNA. The intricately embellished halter blouse only adds to its versatility, pairing just as easily with a lehenga skirt as it would with an heirloom silk sari.
