Sebi working towards balanced derivatives market: Tuhin Kanta Pandey


Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is working on making the derivatives market more balanced with measures that will help the segment, its chief Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Wednesday.

“We would like to develop the market in a more positive sense rather than just doing something which will unnecessarily disrupt it,” Pandey said at an event.

He further said, “Derivatives market is very important and it is a link between cash and futures. We have various kinds of derivatives. And so, we can’t really brush aside and say that derivative has one product. I think the problems that we have faced are particularly relating to index options which are short-dated around the period of expiry.”

Separately, the Sebi chairman declined to comment on the dispute between Noel Tata-led Tata Trusts and the N Chandrasekaran-led Tata Sons board over Chandrasekaran’s reappointment as chairman of the group holding company, shareholder rights of Trusts and the prospect of a Tata Sons listing.
