The company had reported net profit of Rs 3,758.1 crore in the corresponding period of the last financial year. As per Bloomberg estimates, the automaker was expected to post net profit of Rs 3,440 crore.
The company said input costs increased during the quarter due to the crisis in West Asia which impacted profitability despite strong growth in sales. “Material costs had started to increase in the quarter and were seriously aggravated during the war, as a result of which, the Net Profit for the quarter stood at Rs 33,521 million as compared to INR 37,581 million in Q1 FY 2025-26”, the Maruti Suzuki said in a statement.
Net sales in the period under consideration rose to Rs 49,959.1 crore, which is an increase of 36.4% over Rs 36,620.6 crore recorded in the year-ago period. Total expenses last quarter went up by 40.5% to Rs 49,988.1 crore.
The company’s total sales volume grew by 29.3% in the first quarter to a record 682,724 units over the same period of the previous year. Sales for the company grew across categories. While domestic small cars sales grew by 34.1%, SUVs rose by 44.6%. Exports went up by 28.6% last quarter.
Domestic market share of the company increased by 2.3 percentage points to 41.2%. The statements added, “ Higher sales were possible because the Company commissioned its second plant in Kharkhoda.” Despite increased sales, the network inventory level at the end of quarter was about 13 days.
The company’s board also approved 4 compressed bio gas (CBG) projects in the first phase with a budget of Rs 561 crore. The Board would consider expansion of CBG manufacturing based on the experience of these projects, the company said.
Shares of Maruti Suzuki closed at Rs 14,239.40 apiece, up by 0.36% on BSE. The results were announced after market hours.
