US stocks today: Dow Jones falls 300 points as oil price crosess $100
  • PublishedSeptember 9, 2026

Stocks fell on Wall Street as the price of Brent crude oil topped $100 a barrel. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 320 points, or 0.6%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.5%.

The price of Brent crude jumped 3% to top $100 per barrel. The surge in oil prices follows the latest attacks between the U.S. and Iran. The conflict has stifled the flow of oil shipments through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Treasury yields held relatively steady in the bond market. Markets in Europe fell and markets in Asia were mixed.
