New Delhi: Mumbai airport has alloted slots to 38 out of 50 airlines which had asked for slots for the summer schedule.

The IATA summer schedule begins on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Saturday of October

The airport has informed the remaining 12 airlines that they may operate their flight out of Navi Mumbai airport as Mumbai airport will undergo redevelopment of Terminal 1.

People aware of the development said that most these airlines were those from those destinations from 14 destinations which were asked by the airport operator to shift their operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

The 14 destinations to which Indian airlines have shifted flights to Navi Mumbai include Bahrain, Dammam, Dhaka, Doha, Fujairah, Jakarta, Jeddah, Kathmandu, Kuwait City, Madinah, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh and Sharjah.

Mumbai Airport has maintained that the transition of five million passengers will leave around 91% of Mumbai airport’s existing passenger traffic unaffected. It has also said that the historical slots temporarily shifted will be restored once the expansion of Terminal 1 is completed.
The renovation of Termial 1 will increase its capacity from 15 million to 20 million passengers per annum. Construction is slated to begin in January and is targetted to be completed in March 2029.
