Of late, weddings have dominated Khushi Kapoor’s busy calendar. After celebrating sister Anshula Kapoor’s nuptials earlier last month, she was spotted in London, attending a close friend’s wedding. For one of the occasions, she turned to a custom butter yellow Manish Malhotra lehenga that put a contemporary spin on occasion wear with its fishtail skirt and fitted top with diaphanous full-sleeves. A lightweight tulle dupatta with delicate tassels completed her look.

The craftsmanship brings together several of the house’s signature techniques in a way that looks romantic and not over-the-top. According to Malhotra, the lehenga features intricate 3D floral appliqué work in shades of pink, layered over thread embroidery depicting blooming flowers and trailing foliage. Sequins and bead embellishments introduce subtle shimmer, juxtaposed with luminous crystal and pearls.

As seen on Kapoor, the lehenga fits the mood board for destination weddings, garden ceremonies and summer celebrations, and will appeal to brides and bridesmaids looking beyond conventional blush pinks and pistachio greens. Though butter yellow had already emerged as one of fashion’s defining shades over the past few seasons, Kapoor’s lehenga demonstrates how effortlessly the colour translates into Indian occasion wear.

Jewellery from Jivoré Diamonds completed the look with stylist Mohit Rai choosing yellow gemstones-encrusted choker with flower-shaped gemstone charms and a pair of danglers and yellow tear drop-shaped yellow diamonds. The actor’s sleek straight blow dry was rounded off with rosy blush, winged liner and pink lips. A whimsical hot air balloon-shaped purse from Judith Leiber was the perfect accoutrement.

Wedding guest dressing for Gen Z is increasingly about finding silhouettes that feel comfortable without sacrificing impact. And Kapoor’s look is testimony.
